Port do have a bug-o-feature:
- enemy AI far more smart and they shoot more accurately;
- looks like they have invisible wall around their model - sometimes they try to move (when too close to opposite team pig and decide to chose fire weapon, so at first they no so close - if it needed game push them or he make step out if they on same tiles, its happened only for rifle shot - that lead to enemy AI turn loop until times out - he keep trying step back)
There is advantages for both PS1 and PC versions:
- PC one is multiplayer with human players local hot-seat and TCP-IP (there is IPX wrapper in GOG build, but game initially have TCP-IP, its useless), better graphics from earlies developed build before PS1 version got removed maps objects, some textures not present (bazooka-mortar) in PS1; better for first singleplayer playthrough
- PS1 version get lost some content initially should be, i guess formally for technical reason, but i think its not so heavy game - demo\close-to-release dev build still have sheeps and trees removed in release, PS1 version is better for singleplayer "New game+" playthrough aka hard-mode and for skirmish mode play against AI.
Although PS1 also have hot-seat multiplaer, in general it better for PC version.
PC AI not moving is still good for campaign. On skirmish and random generated aps however, its obviously there is supposed to moving pigs.
PS1 pigs, at least at first campaign, very stupid. They do worse actions when try to move and almost not move anyway. They can run away and hide, including shelters, at low HP - but they not so treat like PC version AI. In PC version its far more harder to keep your pigs alive from very first mission.
There is no bugs in PC version. There is broken WinVista\7, more broken for old games Win8+ (now also broken support for 200x* games with D3D8 and even D3D9), as well as broken videodrivers. If game not been properly worked for you - download ddraw compat from narzoul. Try from recent version, if it bring some issues - try older.
There is more complicated wrappers and forks of each others - with additional settings tool. Not all solve all compatibility problems. But narzoul wich one not require any settings should be enough.
http://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat/releases Trying differ GOG DX Wrapper build - they crash game or bring same bugs as Win8+ do even on Win7 where digital release wrok good. Digital re-edition is a good edition - UrbanScan did use 1.1 exe (and not 1.0 like usually it happen for digital versions), update it a little bit more.
There is one disadvantages for digital edition - there is no Music volume slider. In WinME\98 it suppsoed to be regulated in Windows SoundMix for AudioCD. It can be wrapped from DxWnd tool (have a lot of compatibilities wrapping\fixes, inlcuding AudioCD playability). With CD version you can wrap Music volume with DxWnd as well as make it play non-stop (from some update to WinVista AudioCD in games half-broken).
Digital release already have ogg music and it work as intendent - but you cannot set or wrap its volume.
*Oh, i forgot. There is another one missing in PC version - music track that should be played during turns. For PC version when you start turn it play one of team music theme, but then it switch randomly to any else music tracks, including themes from other teams. PC version never have such track.
