I've bought Hogs of War yesterday from Gog and it didn't work for me at the start. I was determend to make it work so I looked for possible solutions.

I've found a fix that made my game work great. It's an unofficial patch that will fix the music, the game, the fps and the textures missing ingame.

Sadly I can't post links. But you can look up the post yourself:

1: Go to google
2: Type in: Hogs of war windows 10 fix
3: look for: [HOW TO] Launch Hogs of War (win10)
* it should be the first search result (its a steam discussions post)
4: Open the post and follow the instructions in the post.

The post is partly in french but the poster is very clear about how to make it work.

Here is the contents of the post: (sadly again without the download link)

"1/ Download the patch files.
- Go on the source, click "Télécharger le jeu", click "Patch de compatibilité pour Windows Vista et ultérieur" and then click "Téléchargement HTTP"
- Unzip it (.7z file)

2/ Install "_inmm238": it's a tool/library that helps handling old games' sounds

3/ Copy all but the inmm238 installer to your game's directory (nothing should be replaced)
- ddraw.dll will act as the missing DirectDraw library (not included in Windows since Win8)
- _inmm.ini & Music folder configures the music
- warhogs.exe is the patched executable to use both ddraw.dll (graphics) and _inmm (music)

4/ Change compatibility settings of "warhogs.exe" (which is the new working game's executable)
- Set compatibility mode to Win95
- DO NOT CHECK Launch in 640 x 480
- Optionnal: I had to set these options too:
- - Replace PPP settings: use the software
- - Launch as admin

5/ Launch "warhogs.exe" & enjoy!"

I hope it will work for you guys too! Enjoy.'

[EDIT]

I've made a screenshot of the post just to make sure you can atleast type over the link if you cant find the post:

Hi everyone, i found a patch who fix the game.

You can find it, on this web site and i include the video from a man who explaining how to install it, and it work for GOG version of the game aswell so ENJOY !

The Patch Here => abandonware-france.org/ltf_abandon/ltf_jeu.php?id=2783

How to install the patch => youtube.com/watch?v=_R2Fm4Q9pBk
same WRONG WAY method from wazer site

GOG\Steam version incompatible with old disc pirate versions (old have broken multiplayer). Use only DirectDraw Ccompat Tool (that dll actually used in all that links+some garbage files) or better - dgVoodoo. Google it, nubs.

This fix works for me. The game menu suffers poor performance but the game itself is fine.

I noticed the fixed music is in the wrong order (Maybe because it was the french version of the game so the french music has replaced the regular game menu music) so I downloaded the Original Soundtrack, converted all the .ogg sound files to.mp3 and renamed them 01 to 30 and replaced them with the music files provided and now it's working as it should for a UK version of the game. Thought I'd leave this note here in case anyone else noticed the music on the game was playing the french variation instead and wanted to fix it,
GOG already have OGG music pre-isntalled. Right order - for original PC version. One extra track 32 -1:1 as 31. One track from PSX version is missed (same as CD version).
It works.

Thank you mate
It doesn't work on Windows 10 for me. I followed the video instructions and I've made some progress as the game will actually show up for a brief second now, but it immediately crashes.

Before applying all these fixes, the process would hang indefinitely and not crash.

Also, I have the issue that some people mention that every open program (including explorer.exe) will become unusable with the mouse. You need to kill explorer.exe and then kill every other process. Does anyone have any idea what that is about, anyways?
Kill and restart EXPLORER in Task manager or any other command tool. Or start and exist from game normally- from main menu. It took back old explorer process.

Any wrappers/mod-wrappers in dynamic DLL form have own system requirements. You must download that hooks only from authors - usually from github (or DeGe voodoo author personal site). You must use only 1 file (1 dll file usually named ddraw.dll - that make dll auto-loaded with game). Do not use exe or any other files.
DgVoodoo dont solve problems for that game (only partially in main menu). Most used DDRAWcompattool dll dont work on some integrated video and/or x32 OS, or on Win7.

Win 8/10 do not have problems with starting the game - only glitches in gameplay process. If you have more trouble- you must solve them before using any custom dll's. On Windows 7 x64 game work almost perfect and didnt require any hacks. If it GOG version.
Install latest stable updates build for Windows, enable legacy DirectPlay, turn off any compatibility (GOG pre set it on game exe) reinstall game to x:/games/hogs-of-war/ as admin. Better use offline installer.
Or in Galaxy you should start Galaxy itself as admin. And make game files check - better twice - after game installation.

Probably better use english version.

Nevermind, I got the game to work on Windows 10 and it was super easy. I just used dgVoodoo. http://dege.freeweb.hu/
Can't believe I didn't think of that sooner, and at the same time I'm surprised that nobody mentions this solution anywhere. Oh well.
I WAS WRONG!

dgVoodoo is NOT what fixed it. I just made the weirdest discovery on why this game didn't work: It refused to run on my main monitor!

On my primary monitor (A 144Hz display) the game just wouldn't run, but later that day I switched to my TV after I tried dgVoodoo and it worked. But as it turned out, it was my TV that fixed it! Then I tried to run the game on my secondary monitors, and it ALSO worked! The only monitor the game refuses to run on is my main 144Hz display!

I have no clue why that is. Of course I tried to change some things like DPI scaling, refresh rate (changed it to 60Hz like my TV and secondary displays), changed the color settings (full range to limited range) but nothing made a difference. I am absolutely flabbergasted. I had no idea that games could refuse to run depending on the monitor. My mind is actually blown.

This might take me a few tries lol, but I'll definitely try this out. I really wanted Hogs Of War to work on my laptop as I played it a lot as a kid on the PS1, and I was disappointed that the menu was almost impossible to navigate with how slow it was.
