I went to play today and there was no option to continue. I read the info about backup saves and copied a file and renamed it to SAVE0.HOB. Continue is back, but it's like a new game. I disable cloud saves to force it to use local files only, which didn't work. Deleted the tmp save file which also didn't help. I would like to continue from where I stopped. Maybe I misread the support post about recovering saves. I'm not very confident that if I did restart that this wouldn't happen again and delete my saves.

I tried a couple different back up saves, even to different slots (i.e. SAVE1), nothing worked.

Also my doesn't have any sound now as well.

I just tried this myself now.

I upload a screenshot of my saves in my backup folder. What you see is that the last ones by number (0_8 & 0_9)
are smaller than my last "real one" 0_7.

I deleted my original SAVE0.HOB and used the last one (0_7) with 85kb and latest date. That was the same as my original save file. The other 2 were ones ways before - so I would have lost progress as well.

Did you try the last one with 85kb?

The 0_8 you see had been overwritten when I used the 0_8 Save - the o_7 hadn't been overwritten

So - the green underlines Save worked - red didn't

Not sure if that helps but it was worth a try :-)

Best regards
Critney

Ever figure this out? I have the same issue.

edit: I'm dumb. Didn't notice the backup files are .BCK and need to be renamed to .HOB.

I just restarted the game. It was only a couple hours into it. Being able to play in 60+ fps was worth the replay. Laptop, game defaulted to Intel chip, not nvidia.
not sure what was happening or if you were able to resolve this. when you use one of your backups you should rename it to SAVE#.HOB, make sure you rename the extension to HOB and the "#" to the one number the backup represents. For example, if the backup you are trying to restore is "SAVE2_8.BCK" rename it to "SAVE2.HOB" Also be sure to move that file into your SAVES folder. The game won't read it if it's still in the backups folder.

Also, if you have an issue with your game state email support@runicgames.com with your save, backups, screenshot and description of where you are.
Well Saves are gone... again.

What is TMPSAVE.TMP? That's the latest file in my SAVES folder. SAVE0.HOB is time stamped 1710, TMPSAVE.TMP is time stamped 18:37. In the SAVES/BACKUPS SAVE0_0.BCK is time stamped 1710. All the other SAVE0_?.BCK files are stamped from 9/30 when my save was missing the first time. I don't think the backup saves are working the way I read they were supposed to be working.

I'm going to email Runic's support and see if they can help. I don't think I've had this many problems with a game since trying to run games in Win95..
