I want to enjoy this game so much but the game is hard. I feel like it everything is set and only key characters are allowed to be taken out. For example, if I want to disguise as a guard, I have to wait for them to stop long enough for me to sneak up on them and knock them out. There are not many people in each level that are facing away from you, and do not move long enough for you to grab them besides people that are urinating and others that seem specifically set for you to take out.
I try to get good scores on stealth games, and I hate that the only way to take anyone out is to find someone the game wants you to take out or shoot them, in turn lowering your score.
Am I not understanding something about how to play this game? I don't need to kill/ knock out every character in stealth games. I always leave a lot of people standing at the end of my game, so I'm not complaining that this games focus isn't on killing. I just hate that it seems scripted.
Sneaking is indeed totally broken in that game, 47's speed when sneaking is so damn slow it's impossible to catch up on anyone that isn't peeing. I believe most pro just walk (not sneak) behind walking enemy soldiers and when they're as close as they can, they quickly enter sneak mode, open the inventory, select the sedative bottle/fiber wire/knife and instantly click the mouse button as soon the inventory window is closed to silently eliminate non stationary guards. There are videos of that on Youtube. It's a mess if you ask me, and I'm damn glad IO was smart enough to fix this thing up in Contracts and Blood Money.

Also, don't give up, the first mission is badly coded in such a way that if you're wearing a guard uniform and enter another's guard field of view, this guard will follow you around non stop until he's two meters from you, see through your disguise and ring the alarm while riddling your body with bullets, the only way to silently physically make your way to the target in this particular mission is to avoid every guard, period. This problem is fixed in subsequent missions (except the second and third Japanese missions.)

I was hoping there was a mod for the sneaking speed. I will look up the walking thing on Youtube. I've seen people do it but I've never been able to actually do it.

Yeah, what was up with the Japanese mission? I thought I was doing something the wrong way or something. I had to Thief most of it and ended up killing a lot of people at the ending of it. For that crap I would have stayed in 47's suit.

Blood Money was good. Hitman games need an upgrade though. They always seem to fall just short of brilliance to me. I don't know what is is but there just isn't something there that needs to be there for me to love the game the way I love Thief and Splinter Cell.
