Day 8:
Does seeing the magic door require a minimum of magic skill points in order to see it?
Currently I have 10 magic skill score and I have spent most of my practice time training rogue skills (including in the library)

If you mean the door to the magic class (in the Nido wing) then the door is only open after you select the magic for mundanes elective and even then only during the class hours in the afternoon.

If you mean any other hidden/secret door: you need enough perception to see them. You can increase perception in several ways, including eavesdropping at doors.

Thank you for your answer: I do mean the Magic door in the Nido wing. At 3PM, all I can see are sparkles, in spite of having magic skill and selecting the Magic Elective Classes.
Or do the elective classes only start from Day 9 on?

I seem to recall that the day after you hear about the elective class is a day off. And that magic class starts the next day? My memory is famously sketchy, tho.
The day after you make your choice.

Has anyone tried failing the first test yet?

Yes, just for fun. All you get is a warning to perform better on the next test. Not even a demerit.

Huh. Then has anyone gotten the top score? If so, does anything much happen?

You are correct. The door does appear 1 day after elective classes are mentioned .
@GOG: Please mark this answer as the correct answer to my question
I actually failed the first test in my first play-through, and was not able to take an elective. That's perfectly okay; it gives Shawn more time to practice in the afternoons. However, a test too challenging for the co-designer seemed a bit harsh, so I made the correct answers a bit clearer, and lowered the minimum passing score.

Dear Corey, when I meet Joel Kyro at day 31 I see no option anymore to buy the access code to the ghost fence. Is this intentional?

You have to know you have a problem before you can find the solution. If you've tried to get through the door without knowing the password, you can talk to Joel and get it (choose the "No Clue" option at the door). The conversation on day 30 bypasses that, as Joel will bring up the topic himself. But if you miss that conversation, you need to find the password-protected door before you can ask Joel about it.

I'm fine-tuning this a little for the patch, as in the current version you might be out of luck if the conversation comes up when you're broke. So thanks for asking about it!

Joel, by the way, is not the only entity in the castle that knows the correct password. However, you will always need to try to open the door before anyone will help you with it.

Thank you!. Interesting choice of words here, "entity", hmm if this meshes with the remark Shawn made just after trying the door, I know exactly whom to ask this question. Still, I think it would be logical if Joel Kyro would have this a dialogue option on the 31st as well, especially because Shawn befriended him.

Joel does have that dialogue option - in fact it's his default - once you choose "No Clue" at the door. And in some other cases after the patch. :-)

Thank you again. I have managed to pull through to day 41 without loosing Joel and I must say, I would like to revise my review to 4 stars. Not so much in reaction to your kind hints, but rather in repsonse to the perceived quality of the game. There are still quite some flaws, for instance, the select box of skatters and undead warriors can overlap when slain close to each other, making the middle monster unlootable.
