So..I'm a complete noob, not only to HOMM 3, but to strategy games period. However, I was swayed by reviews, advice and the GOG promo to take the plunge and buy HOMM3 complete.
I've only played the tutorial and have watched recommended youtube clips (from boredgamergirl) as well as reading the manual (admittedly not from cover to cover) and am finding the gameplay tricky to get to grips with.
For instance:
There are always heroes available to hire. Should I just keep hiring to explore or is there a penalty to pay for having too many?
Continued from above, I figured that the easiest way to get additional troops to my main hero was to have several hired heroes 'en route' but otherwise redundant and keep swapping them as and when troops are available. That's a pretty poor explanation but hope it makes sense.
I've found a grail that claims to provide all kind of goodies if I bring it to a settlement. I did just that and absolutely nothing happened? What am I missing (except a few brain cells)?
I also noted when watching a youtube beginners guide that my hero can learn various magic spells if a) he/she has a spell book and b) he/she has at least basic wisdom. I then checked my hero and he has a) the book ....but not b) any wisdom. However, he does have spells in his spell book. How does that work?
I have soooo many other questions but will shut up for now. I would appreciate any advice as I really want to experience this game as others have - especially a step by step guide where applicable. Thanks.
