I just thought I'd offer some feedback based on the new HoMM1 Setup/Install (as compared to the old one). My two main complaints are:
1. Default settings are extremely hitchy/laggy on my box. I assume I can change some settings to fix this, but it was so annoying to listen to the music glitch and feel the pointer glitch every couple seconds, I couldn't play. In contrast, the first HoMM1 installer plays the game amazingly smoothly on default settings. I suppose it has to be a settings issue, but I don't know what or why it would have been introduced. And I don't see any benefit to just not using the old installer so I don't have to dither with the settings--though I also wonder if I am missing something in the new installer. It's not clear.
2. The new installer uses >360 MB more space than the old one. The homm1.gog image file is so much bigger. Why? It's unclear whether this is supposed to be beneficial for the consumer or not, especially when I know the game hasn't changed. It makes me wonder what is taking up all the space, and whether it's good or bad.
When there are patches to the game or installer, I would like to see a changelist.
Separately, a minor complaint is that when downloading, sometimes the default download location changes from what it used to be (e.g. from homm to heroes_of_might_and_magic in this case). I store all my GOG downloads on my HD, and it's becoming a bigger deal as updates and patches become more frequent. Changing the download location name introduces ambiguity, and makes it harder to realize when I've got stuff in two different locations. (I have 161 game folders in my GOG collection.) It would be nice to pick something and stick with it for each release.
