I feel like an idiot but I keep getting my ass kicked in the very first mission of the good guy campaign in HOMM2.

For mission specific tips, someone else will have to help. But for general tips and tips on playing specific towns, this forum is stuffed full of incredibly good tips that I'd strongly recommend reading. They can help open the game to you by showing new and unexpected ways to think about gameplay from micro to macro. And since people are often very opinionated about favorite tactics and sides, they can often be really intriguing and even funny.

So much great stuff to read on this forum about the game in general. Don't hesitate to go back page after page.
