I'm in the first mission ("Betrayal") of the Inferno Campaign, the one where you are being chased by overwhelming forces. Whenever I put my hero in a sanctuary and end my turn, the AI turn won't complete. The progress bar will get stuck partway and never finish. The game still responds. I can open the menu. The music keeps playing. But the AI never completes its turn! Quite frustrating. Anybody else encounter this or happen to know how to fix it?

Sorry for digging out that post. However I have got the same problem. Did anybody find a solution. Because of this bug, I can not continue the game.
The bug is still unresolved - very irritating
I too just encountered this same bug now in 2021.

It's very annoying indeed!

Searching on google brought up this thread and also another thread on reddit about this problem, with useless replies that say "use a walkthrough."

But don't want to use a walkthrough. I'm not interested in doing that. That would ruin all the fun of the game for me...which at the moment, isn't fun anyway due to this game-breaking bug still being in it for well-over a decade.

If the original devs won't fix it, then GOG devs should fix it themselves, since they sell the game on GOG in this broken state...at least it is broken for that particular level which is called "The Betrayal," the first mission of Chapter 2.

That's quite a challenge to recompile game exe and dll's without source code...
Disabling "Quick Combat" in game options fixed this issue for me.
