I installed HOMM 3 Gog version in Kubuntu 11.04. I used PlayOnLinux. It runs OK, but will start in a window 800x600 window only. My default and only available resolution is 1024x768. So , I will have a window which cannot be maximized. I want the game run in full screen, atried running in virtual desktop mode, and setting the res I like, fiddling with different settings, changing the dpi(from wineconfig)
I had a similar problem with caesar3, but changed the ingame settings to the desired, and that fixed it....
Any ideas welcome

There has been numerous topics about HOMM3 and changing the resolution, I suggest you use search, some threads are quite informative and you may find them very useful.

As for your problem with resolution. Try to download and run homm3HD mod.
http://sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd/eng/download

Here you can change almost every resolution and rendering mode.
EDIT: You can also change Fullscreen/windowed mode in game with F4 (even without HD patch).

Best regards.

I'm launching HoMM3 on PClinuxOS using latest WineHQ - full screen mode is ok., the standard resolution I use is 1920x1080. The game automaticly changing the resolution.

I know that PlayOnLinux is based on Wine but maybe other add-on can help, I have instaled winetricks too.

My issue seems to be video driver related. I installed Ubuntu on my desktop PC and tried it - everything worked flawlessly. On the other hand most of the games I try have the same problem - they cant force the resolution they need. I tried with Caesar 3, Commandos 1, Worms World Party(not available from this site) .
I consider this issue solved, since it is hardware and driver related. To anyone that encounter this issue - I run the game in separate x-server window via xinit and specifying different resolution with xrandr. I can provide more issue if someone needs it. I had to provide a generic xorg.conf file cos the lower resolutions were not present.
PC that has the problem - Thinkpad x40 with intel i855GME video. To anyone, thank you for your replies.
