Hi, I just wanted to share my view upon some of homm 3 features.
Right now I always play on impossible since other difficulties dont really create any challenge-
starting with 10k gold in the beginning is really helpful (expert). With this you can easily build tier 7 buildings in first week, even rushing for angles becomes possible - mage guild, monksbuilding and portal of glory.
The best hero depends in each case on the size of the map you are playing and the castle type.
For conflux I play grindan - 350g daily and basic wisdom and earth magic, starts with slow spell.
For castle is usually Mullich thanks to his op ability of +2speed. The magic hero for castle I play is Adela -starts with diplomacy which is kind of cheating and again op ability.
My strategy for impossible is usually trying to build city hall and best creature building for different castles - like altar of storms for conflux, estate etc. You can also build citadel instead of the city hall first if the money is scarce and you need bigger army, which leaves you usually with zero cash after recruiting troops.
You should also notice that for the tier 7 buildings not all creature buildings are necessary - for example dont need griphon tower for portal of glory.
If you're still looking for a challange i recommend playinng some epic custom maps, like empire of world, or downloading wog (only if you fully understand the mechanisms of normal homm-otherwise you will be lost in many new options) and playing some super-hardcore maps like dragon slayer, where battles in the first week are the hardest ones i ever encountered.
i also usually use quick combat for mid-late game, especially if you have big armies and dont care about losing 1 or two ranged units for hard battles. Obviously never for hero battles, just neutrals whcih are blocking the way.
