Engioc: I have the same issue, it doesn't open, even when setup to use DOSBox. Even if you try to manually run it from within DOSBox it fails stating it can't be run in DOS mode. See the attached jpg.
So the HOMM1 editor is not able to run within DOSBox, but unfortunately it also doesn't run in Windows 10, so thanks very much to GOG for not fixing it.
I've even downloaded the latest version from GOG, the Editor still does NOT work.
I've experienced this with other game editors when they are released from GOG as well. They get the game working but always end up failing with things like editors. DUMB.
You are talking about a piece of software that's more than 20 years old running on a system that wasn't even conceived back then. DOS programs are (fairly) easy to run thanks to all the hard work the good people from DOSBox put, but those early 32 bit executables are really tricky to run on modern systems.
GOG are doing all they can to run them, but their resources should be prioritized to having the actual game work. If they can get the game but not the editor to run, what do you want them to do? Not publish the game at all?
Anyway, did you try all the compatibility options? Maybe one of them will help. If not you can try running it on a Windows XP virtual machine, or through Windows 3.1 or 95 installed on DOSBox.
