I bought this game today because I loved it as a teen and young adult and played it a lot until the SoldOut Software DVD stopped working on one of my previous PCs. I had been thinking about the game recently so I decided to go for it as I have never had a problem with a GOG game and was convinced it would be fine. Sadly, this time, I got the game installe but when I go to play, I get the little logo come up at the bottom of the screen, sometimes with a short black stcreen, and then nothing happens. It makes no difference whether I get the update or not.

Does anyone know how to help me, please? I really want to play now and will be gutted if I can't.
What's your OS? And your PC specs?
Hi, thaks for responding.

I'm on Windows 7 64 bit operating system with 636GB free memory (after installing the game). My graphics card is AMD Radeon R9 200. I have 8GB RAM and my processor is an Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40Ghz.

Is that enough info?
Funnily enough it decided to load up this afternoon, after a dozen failed attempts last night. I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens as I start playing.

Check this support page - http://www.gog.com/support/heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_complete_edition/crashing_in_general

Also, if you have the game installed in Program files folder, reinstall it to somewhere else, let's say C:\GOG Games

Does the game hang at that screen, vanish like it exited, or vanish with a Windows message box telling you the program crashed?

That will be a multi-core processor. Some users have reported problems when the game is not confined to a single core, due to bugs that were overlooked back then because almost nobody had multi-core processors when Heroes 3 was released. If the problem resumes, try forcing the game to use a single core:

Open a command prompt.
Change to the directory where the game is installed.
Run start /affinity 1 heroes3.exe.

If that reliably helps, there are more complicated ways to ensure that this happens automatically so that you can launch with the usual Windows shortcut and get the same result. I thought I had seen users claim that the GOG installer would handle this for you, but I do not know if that is true or how the installer handles it.

Sorry I haven't posted here in a while. I ended up being ill for the past week so I forgot about this!

I've been able to get the game to run so long as I make sure Google Chrome is shut before I try opening it, but it does crash a fair bit at random, so I may still need to try some of the other suggestions in the thread.
