Hi, I am trying to get Heroes of Might and Magic 3 running on my MacBook and can't figure it out at all. I created a Wineskin wrapper containing the program files but am now stuck. If I run the heroes3.exe I get the 'CD not found' problem which only allows multiplayer.

I tried running 'gogwrap.exe' but on the test run for the wrapper it just seems to run forever without doing anything.

If anyone could walk me through step by step what to do to get the game running, that would be fantastic. Assuming I am a complete idiot would probably be beneficial.

I am currently running Wineskin 2.5.5, should that be significant.

I'm not able to do a step-by-step at the moment, but try this: install the Heroes 3 HD mod into the Wineskin wrapper and then run that as the exe. It bypasses the game's natural copy protection. And you get widescreen HoMM3 (if you want it)!

Hi, I can confirm that Wineskin works great with HOMM 3 Complete plus Heroes3HD (without it video was not working well): all in OSX Mountain Lion.

Just install WineSkin, get an engine (anyone from the list should work), and then create a new skin (no need for a Mono installation, and it crashed in my case). Just select your .exe installation file from GOG.com to install the software.

Once installed, you should get a Heroes 3 (or whatever name you choose for the skin) icon. Right click and select Show Contents. You will see a WineSkin program inside, what you can use to keep installing software. Open it, select your Heroes HD installation file.

Once HD is installed, run it and play with the settings until you get a comfortable environment (I choose the resolution of my MacBook Air: 1444x900). When done, you can create an .exe file so this configuration dialog does not appear anymore. Save it.

Finally, open the WineSking executable again and in the advance preferences choose your recently created exe file. Now exit the Show Contents folder and just double clicking the program will open the game with your HD settings at once.

Final settings: you can choose icons (download an .icns -the mac icon format-), and you can move your entire skin app to the system's application folder (by default its saved in your user's folder).

Hope it helps!

Regards,
Jose.
I'm trying to get this going on my Mac, but just using Wine standalone I get a ton of flickering of various animations and UI elements, and am unable to right click (which really makes the game unplayable). When I right click, the game thinks I released the mouse button immediately, even if I am holding it down. No change in both these issues with a Wineskin wrapper, and Installing HD mod actually made the flickering issue worse, and I can't click anything once I get in-game. (Nothing happens.)

I wish there were more people trying to make this work, I am really just trying different settings at random. I don't know enough about Wine to fix it.

Hi, I managed to run it with Wine on my Macbook Air, here are the steps:

1. Install Heroes: wine "setup.exe"
2. Install Heroes HD mod: wine "HoMM3 HD Latest.exe"
3. Run Heroes and select graphics mode:
a. wine HD3_Launcher.exe
b. screen resolution: 1440 x 900
c. Color mode: 32-bit MMX (stretchable)
d. Stretch filter: bilinear
e. Fullscreen: off

It is important to launch it in the windowed mode first. For some reason, if the game starts in the fullscreen mode, it has some strange graphical issues, but if you run it in the windowed mode FIRST and THEN switch to fullscreen - everything is OK!

I hope it helps :)

I know this is a VERY old thread, but I solved this issue today by changing from 32-bit stretchable GDI to 32-bit stretchable. Flickering and non-updating of screen fixed.

I have been trawling the internet for a fix to this! How do you implement the change you mentioned? Do you need to have HD installed or can you do it without?

Thanks!

I did it in the HD launcher. There's an option for graphics mode on the left. Switch it to 32-bit stretchable.

Did the trick for me!
Hi all
I've made Heroes 3 HotA + HD Mod run on my MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) via Wineskin.
I'm using Engine WS9Wine 1.9.11.

Actually it was pretty easy to set up but it took me several ours to resolve that flickering + right click issue which was described here before. The issue only occurred when I used HotA while basic Heroes + HD Mod was running fine because for some reason I was not able to disable the fullscreen mode for HotA.

However, the workaround to solve it was just entering the game and if the issue occurs just leave the game temporarily with CMD+Tab and then directly press it again to go back to the game and voilà the issue does no longer occur. With this workaround I'm able to use other Graphics Modes from the HD Mod as well + Fullscreen.

In addition it's now possible to stream Heroes3 to TV via AppleTV :)

Hope this helps! :)
Hello all,

So i have downloaded the PlayOnMac app and I am trying to download the Heroes 3 complete from GOG here and when I go to download it it asks for my user name and password for GOG. I enter it in and it says the login failed. Anything I can do?
Thanks for all the help here. For me the key was to set the HD Launcher as the default exe and load the game from that. Otherwise I had all the flashing (although the cmd-tab helped but with the launcher it's no issue).
Hello,

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 installed successfully on MAC OS X Yosemite ussing Crossover but once I tried to launched it, it goes to a black screen ? I am not sure what to do afterwards, some say it's a graphic adjustment but how do I access that without having access to the in game options, only Heroes3.exe which is in the game's folder department. Another thing is that the Heroes3.exe file has the logo of the CrossOver but not that of the game, which makes me thing is that the right one.

Thanks for any help, you guys are probably way more advance in how to than me.
