Never mind - figured it out...

I am new to GOG and HOMM3. I started the tutorial and can't figure out how to get troops from the garrison into my company. The instructions say to click the unit and click a blank slot below them but it does nothing. Any help would be appreciated!

Works fine for me. Left click troop unit, left click open slot in hero's army.

May be stating the obvious, but you need to have your hero in the town to transfer troops from the garrison to your hero.

1. Click on the troop in the garrison (top row of slots) and they should now be highlighted
2. Click on either a blank slot or a slot filled with the (exact) same type of creature in your hero's troop slots (bottom row, next to the picture of your hero)

They should now transfer from the garrison to your hero's army

And having just reread your question, see you already figured it out. Ah well, will leave the answer anyway in case anyone else asks.

Bumping this because I have the same problem. OP, why didn't you just tell us the solution!

edit: when I replied to the thread, the other replies became visible. I couldn't see them before. Problem solved, need to move hero into town by clicking on the gate so that the horse rears up.
