I remember being told here that the game is supposedly bugged, something with the expansion and what not - is that still true?

It all depends on what you mean by 'bugs'.
Trench damage? It's not a bug but a feature of SoD and Complete releases.
Problems with RoE campaigns (incorrect transfers between scenarios for example) can be called 'bugs'. But these campaigns only work correctly in the original RoE release itself because of several differences in game mechanics between RoE and SoD.
'CD not found' problem? It happens because the game should be runned as administrtator at least once in order to create necessary registry entries.
What else?
