I just tried to load Heroes of Might and Magic 3, and as the program loads, my screen goes black and freezes up. It is then unresponsive. I had to unplug my computer and then plug it back in to reboot it. Can someone help me with this problem?

I think it's one of those titles that needs old DirectPlay manually installed... GOG recently started to activate this automatically on some install packages, not sure if yours was already updated.

At any rate, most of the problems with newer OS will be completely bypassed by using the fan made HD mod, which also adds many QoL features

I bought the entire Heroes of Might and Magic series, and am still on the first game, so my question here isn't exactly dire, but I would like to know how to fix my problem for when I am ready to play HOMM3. Do I need to download a file or program to my HOMM3 work? More info please! Thanks again!

It should work even in stock form, but the mod in the second link i posted usually solves a lot of headaches, works better on large screens/high resolutions, and makes the UI more functional

Download, put it into your main HOMM3 folder and launch from there, should be as easy as that
