Ok, I cannot for the life of me get this program started.

I have tried everything I could read and or think of. I have tried running the game in every compatibility mode possible with multiple combinations of reduced color mode, disable display scaling etc...

I have tried running the game from the command prompt (as administrator) with start /affinity 1 heroes3.exe

I have tried patching and running the game with imageCFG.

I have installed DirectXJune2010...

I have tried specifying the default graphics card for Homm3, and then my NVidea.

I have tried running all of the above as administrator and not.

I have disabled the DEP.

I have turned off Avast.

Im out of ideas. No matter WHAT I do, it goes to a black screen and then jumps back out to a prompt in a shitty resolution that says Heroes of Might and Magic 3 has stopped working. Windows will notify you of a solution blah blah blah.

I even figured Id try and press debug in the prompt but that doesn't work because the resolution is so bad I can't see anything when it tries to open Visual Studios, not to mention I loose complete mouse control over the window.

Anyways, I'm at my wits end.. I just wanna play this game. Help!

My OS: x64 Windows 8.1
System: Lenovo ThinkPad
Intel i7 2.2GHz
8 GM Ram
750 GB HD of which 300 is still unused
NIVIDIA GeForce GT 740M
Hmm, if you have Geforce Experience installed, try to uninstall it.

I had the same issue and I solved it by going into my GeForce Experience settings and disabled ShadowPlay. Works perfectly now. Hope it solves your problem too :)
i have windows 8 and it crashes but i dont find any geforce experience /shadowplay but i have nivada g force 770
I have a GeForce 720, and I don't seem to have GeForce Experience, let alone Shadowplay.

Heroes 3 says it encounters an error and stops working under Windows 8.1.

I have an Intel i5-4460 at 3.20 GHz, 12.0 GB RAM, and the GeForce has 2 GB RAM on it.

I've tried run as administrator and running in various compatibility modes.

Does Heroes 3 use DosBox?
Something else occurs to me... my computer is new (just unboxed it) and it won't recognize my Acer monitor. I'm trying to get it to update the driver, but there's no Windows 8 driver for my model.

In the meantime, it's stuck at one resolution. If H3 needs, like, 640x480, and I'm stuck at 1028x740, maybe that makes H3 crash.

Grim Fandango Remastered works fine, I'm trying other games, too.
Okay, I applied the HD patch: sites.google.com/site/heroes3hd and the game runs fine from the launcher under 8.1.

So it did appear to be a resolution issue.
