Okay, I recently bought HOMM3 complete though GOG and enjoyed it thoroughly, on the advice of a friend.

We want to see if we can get the multiplayer to work, and as we both already have Gameranger, it works fine, and we play for a couple of hours.

Now, as I'd enjoyed it so much, I gifted the GOG complete edition to a friend of ours.

However, when we try and perform multiplayer through Gameranger, we encounter two problems.

1) Whenever I or the newest person try to host the game for each other, it doesn't work, when I try to join his I get an endlessly loading screen, and when I try to host all I get is a medium-sized block in the corner of my screen representing a crashed game.

2) We can't both join the game hosted by the fellow I'd played with before - I'd heard that HOMM3 has trouble with multiplayer with more than one person. Is this true? Or is it simply a Gameranger problem?

Sorry for posting a question that has likely been asked already, it's just that when I looked at previous threads they all just suggest Gameranger.

Thanks to anyone who reads this and/or helps.

I have the SAme prob with GAmeRanger it use to work no prob now just the endless loading screen and crah without any errors
I very rarely actually used things like Game Ranger and Gamespy Arcade or the zone (when it still existed) to actually play H3 through.

I mainly used them to find players and then we played using TCP/IP directly as it was a lot easier to detect problems especially if you were playing with multiple ppl. Also used Hamachi as a lot of ppl had Firewall/port issues and it worked around those without having to really do much.

Back then most ppl had one of four different versions. The one only Gog is the Complete version also known as 4.0. Some ppl only had the original Restoration of Erathia V1.4, the Expansion Armageddons Blade V2.2 or Shadow of Death V3.2. Luckily since I had complete I could play with all of those since it was all of them combined.

Also if ppl couldn't connect they got a more concise error message. Like "Your version 1.3 is not compatible with the Hosts 4.0" and I would be able to tell them they just needed the 1.4 patch and then no problems.

Basically what Game Ranger did was the same thing that Hamachi did by enabling ppl to get around the FWall and port issues. So if that is the case you may have to try using Hamachi and trying as perhaps GR is no longer doing that.

I would be willing to test with anyone if they want as well. I am in the easter time zone, GMT -5, so just let me know in my time when you would like to try via pm here.
