Anyone have success getting the HoMM2 windows version working well in Windows 10 1703? I have a few problems. The game launches, but it's in a really small window. Secondly, there is no music, and was hoping I wouldn't need to put the original CD in for that. Also, when I try to launch the GoG "settings" from the start menu, it never comes up. It asks to run as admin, which I allow it to, then I never see anything. I can tell it's running in task manager as a background process, using a lot of CPU power, but nothing that I can see on the screen.

Why not just use the DOS version instead?
It's the excact same game, with the added benefits of easy screencapping and the possibility of the game running in correct aspect ratio on a modern monitor.

Yes, I've been using the DOS version, but I wanted to check something with the Windows version. Not a big deal, just figured someone may have got it to work.

Well, it works fine with Win 7.
Personally I have avoided updating to Win 10, just to avoid problems with compatibility with older games.

It's possible choosing the right compatibility setting when you right click on the game exe will work.
If not Virtual Box is an alternative, but it requires having a copy of an older version of Windows

Yes. I have the game running perfectly. No problems whatsoever. CD opera and everything... Do you have original game cd?
If that is the case, then why the heck are you bothering with gog version? Use hamachi.

If you have purchased HoMM2 from GOG, then you can go to https://www.gog.com/downloads/heroes_of_might_and_magic_2_gold_edition/2863 to download the Windows version. This is linked in your game library page as HoMM 2 Gold (optional Windows version) when you open the tile for HoMM2.
