Basically, music plays just fine but there are no sound effects at all... Anyone got a solution for this?

I think i had a similar problem a while ago, after a specific update of the wrapper... if I remember correctly, I had to revert the WING32.DLL library back to version 1.53 or 1.54

Later wrappwr versions contains more than one file. Use all the files and check config.
