Anyone had this problem before? It used to work on my laptop when I was playing this game a year ago.
I installed it back recently to play again but the game does not start at all.

Any clues where to start?

The best way to play the Chronicles is to play them as Custom Campaigns from Heroes III HD. It's a bit of work to set up (Google it if interested) but worth it IMO since you can change screen resolution.

You can use GL Wrapper for playing on modern systems. Just put DDRAW.dll in game folder where main exectables are placed.
