Hi guys, I was forced by circumstances to buy a new PC and it had Windows 8 already installed.
When trying to run Heroes 4, I get to menu and all I get is a black screen, even though the sound works. Since I'm new to Windows 8 (I switched from Win XP), can someone tell me where the problem could be?

Hi klaymen ;), try to install this - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
Thank you triock, but alas, it didn't change a thing. :(
Ok, a couple of more things you can try:
1. Make sure you run the game as admin (right-click game's shortcut and select "Run as Administrator")
2. Try disabling User Account Control, then reinstall the game by right-clicking the installer and using “Run as Administrator”, then launch the game with “Run as Administrator” again.
3. Try different compatibility modes - right-click the game's shortcut, go to Properties -> Compatibility
4. Make sure DEP is turned on for essential Windows programs and services only
5. Do not install it to a Program files folder, a dedicated folder for GOG games, i.e. C:\GOG Games would be great.
Sorry for taking so long to response.

Points 4 and 5 were moot, because DEP was set to "essential programs and services only" already and installation's default directory was set to GOG's own. That being said, points 1 to 3 didn't make a difference.

EDIT: Got it now. Setting the affinity to single core did the trick.

His solution was different, maybe he tried yours and didn't work. Also, you didn't marked your topic as a Question / Problem, so maybe he missed it for that. I "+1" you both for share your solutions but the next time you should do that. ;)

Also, I made a request for people to be able to mark their own post as the solution, so the topics as this one can be marked as SOLVED and new people can go directly to the solution without reading the whole topic. You can vote here: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/mark_your_own_post_as_as_a_solution_for_question_problems
