Hi everyone;

I've purchased Heroes 3 from GOG but my computer is running the original CD version of Heroes 3 Complete. I am re-playing the Shadow of Death campaign and I've played through the first 5 campaigns and am on Unholy Alliance.

During the first 5 campaigns we are told that our Hero will have their skills, spells, and experience carry over to the final campaign. When I start any of the maps my Hero is there and quite advanced but definitely not with the skills I had them learn and with no spells.

I vaguely recall this problem being discussed online when Heroes 3 was first released but there doesn't seem to be a patch for it.

Does anyone know if this problem occurs in the GOG version of Heroes 3 or if there is a patch for Heroes 3 Complete?

Thanks!
EDIT:
Well, you made get my dusty DVD out and load a saved game. Actually I had the same problem. The heroes carried over between levels in same campaign, but they didn't carry over between their campaign and unholy alliance.

EDIT2:
Just to clarify. The carryover doesn't happen on any edition, DVD nor GOG. And it's highly unlikely that it will be "fixed" since it's a problem with the engine itself. There is no carryover mechanic between campaigns, only between levels of same campaign. Changing this would mean modifying the engine, which is not something GOG would do since it involves more than a simple "patch".

The heroes are of same level anyway. They are pretty powerful, so the campaign is easily playable.

Hi,

I can't say about the gog version, but the DVD version I bought few years ago and as far as I can remember, the heroes carried over properly (mind you, this was few years ago, but I think I'd remember if this bug was there) (EDIT: looks like I remembered wrong; the heroes do not carryover between campaigns in DVD version either).

So... if it was already fixed in the DVD version (EDIT: it was not fixed), I'd say gog would have the latest one and be fixed as well (EDIT: it's not fixed).

But why don't you just try cheat codes to find out?

I got the same treatment too, basically, the only thing that carried over was the hero level, everything else was just randomly generated with primary and secondary skills appropriate for a character of that level. The campaign can still be done just fine tho, since hero carry over is such a game breaking mechanic.

Last but not least, Unholy Alliance is not the final campaign, there's a seventh campaign that can only be accessed by loading the savegame you create at the end of the Unholy Alliance campaign.

No kidding, it was bad in HOMM3 but it make several caompaigns in HOMM4 way too easy.

I'm playing the Shadow of Death campaign and just restarted the campaign until the hero had a skill set I was happy with. I wasn't happy to find out that Yog had 2 magic skills, estates and first aid when I first started his scenerio on the last campaign ;)
In mine, everyone had expert Earth, Air and Wisdom except Gelu who was stuck with garrison duty while the rest conquered the entire campaign with Dimension Door and Town Portal, and I recall bumping the difficulty from Hard to Expert to Impossible over the course of the campaign because at time it was becoming busy work.
This is a bug and as far as I know there's no solution yet
I've been hoping for years for an update from GOG for this bug
Hey just wanted to say thanks everyone for the replies! Went on and finished Armageddon's Blade campaign, now considering the two unofficial fan-made expansion packs.
any solution or available hot-fix yet ? i met exactly same bug yesterday.

Tarnum wrote in my other thread that:

"Problems with RoE campaigns (incorrect transfers between scenarios for example) can be called 'bugs'. But these campaigns only work correctly in the original RoE release itself because of several differences in game mechanics between RoE and SoD. "

Do you know if there is a version of the game or bug that fixes it, short of running the with RoE only and installing SoD only after finishing it?
Sorry, not really.
