I have run the installation twice and the game just crashes before I see anything come up, just a black screen and it says it has stopped working.

i am running Win7 64bit

Which version? DOS or Windows? Remember that Windows release is unsupported by GoG and can not wotk on particular system. If this is your case, uninstall Windows game release completely and install DOS(box) release.
