Anyone had any joy with these titles on Steam Deck, managed to get 3 running no problem even with the HD mod, but heroes 1 and 2 just stay on a loading or blank screen, guessing its maybe cause they are technically dos titles?

Even Fheroes2 has me stumped it asks to copy 4 folders from the installation over to its own, one of them being /anim but there is no anim folder in my installation so its just always asking for something that doesn't exist.#

This may be different for different version of the games, I have HOMM2 from an old Ubisoft Humble Bundle, but \ANIM may be inside a \HEROES2 folder in the main installation path

So the 4 directories needed by FHeroes2 may be looking like this
+<main folder>
-\DATA
-\HEROES2
----\ANIM
-\MAPS
-\MUSIC

Gog version has ANIM folder stored on emulated game image. You simply should use script for extracting game resources from fheroes2 folder or copy ANIM folder manually, mounting and exploring OG disk image by yourself.

Or you can download Windows Heroes 2 version from the store, which is available there as alternative.

cheers for the advise. I may just leave it to Heroes II HD, its already such a large game with so many maps my 1 and 2 itch can be settled on PC

I'm happy to tell I managed to run both HoM&M I and HoM&M II on my steam deck. Didn't need to tinker much to achieve it. Both work like a dream.

Although, for HoM&M II I recommend fheroes 2 app. Better optimization and provides much more functionality.

Could you please explain how you managed to get Heroes 2 to run on the Steam Deck. Even the Win version is not running and I tried different Proton compatibility options.
