Hi all

Trying to host a HOMM2 game using gameranger.
I can launch the game and it launches also the game on my friends computers so this part works fine.
Then I try to create a multiplayer netork tcpip game and select host. I give them the IP address written in the message box 'which is my wan ip address so this looks good). When they enter it on their side they always have the message "Error in IP address".
Does anyone know what's wrong ? Should I try something else ? IPX does not work at all, there's a windows error message.

Thanks a lot !

I'm not familiar with 'gameranger'. However, I had great success setting up tcp/ip game via LAN and remote game using Hamachi.

Regarding online game without hamachi: forwarding ports on router only manages to establish connection between two or more computers but after that it always fails. I wouldn't bother.
For the record - HOMM2 uses UDP port 2000. This may or may not be useful to you.

IPX has never worked for me. It is some sort of old network protocol...
Mind that I'm using windows version.

If you are using dosbox I imagine that you should try to somehow configure it as a server. Try this article. Wish you luck.

Hi, thanks for your answer !
Well, I do see people successfully playing HOMM2 using gameranger. I think it does some kind of virtual LAN on its own, somehow like hamachi but without all the hassle.
Thanks for the port info ! I'll try to forward it and see if it helps.
Otherwise, well I'll give Hamachi a try, hoping it won't be too complicated to setup...

Sure. Take your time. :) You didn't specify if you are running dosbox or windows version.
If you are throwing dosbox between gameranger and homm2 it might be a different problem altogether. Who knows.

Hamachi is quite easy. :) Just have to register. Their online 'management panel' is somewhat confusing but other than that should be no problem setting up virtual LAN :)
Pay attention, that when hosting a game without or with hamachi, your host IP address changes (address that appears in the box when you are hosting game). If gamrerangrer creates virtual LAN, I think it should do the same thing.
