Hi, never played HOMM1 before d/loading this, but I wasted weeks on HOMM2 back in the day. I remember in HOMM2 that you could view a hexagonal grid while battling that showed you how many spaces each of your units could reach. Does this feature exist in HOMM1? Because if it does, I can't find it.
I also couldn't find it, but I also couldn't find ANY options for the battle screen, so I suppose there is no way to turn the hex grid/cursor shadow on.
As far as I can remember the visible hex grid was introduced in HOMM2.
There's a mod available for the english version that works with GOG's DOS version:
DO W N L O A D
Copy into DATA folder and execute showgrid.bat. and you're done.

And you have to use another palette file:
PALETTE

Although you have to consider that the result does not look as good as original without grid...

It's also possible with windows verision and GL wrapper (grid, shadows)
