I have the HOMM3 complete edition. While finishing up Armageddon's Blade, just completed the Playing with Fire Campaign, but the final compaign, Foolhardy Waywardness, is greyed out. How do I get this campaign to unlock? I've completed everything else.

Thanks,
ThingolGog

Are there green check marks next to all other campaigns? Or did you click "New Game" every time you started one?

You're supposed to continue your saved game when you finish each campaign, not start a new game.

If that's the case, your only option is to use cheat codes, or I could drop you a saved game.

I did click new game after each seperate campaign was completed (as I believe the interface forces me to; I saved at campaign completion, but a reload of that saved game doesn't allow going forward to the next campaign either).

One thing - I didn't complete the Restoration of Erathia campaign (I've completed it long ago on another computer using the PC CD version, not the GOG version I'm playing now). Would that impact things?

ThingolGog: ...
Completing Restoration of Erathia does not impact anything. Really what is important is that once you finish a campaign, you save the game and immediately begin the next campaign without accessing the "New Game > Campaign" buttons from the main menu. If, upon completing a campaign, you are thrown to the main menu, you must load the savegame you made when you completed the last mission, doing so should open the Armageddon's Blade campaign screen except this time around the campaign you just completed will have a little gold check mark on it.

I think your best bet at this point is to ask ZFR for a savegame if you want to unlock the last campaign. Had you been playing Shadow of Death, Restoration of Erathia, or the first six chapters of Heroes Chronicles it'd have been a pleasure for me to upload you a savegame as I've got savegames at every steps of the campaigns in those games but I've still got two campaigns to finish in Armageddon's Blade so I cannot help you on this one.

I believe this is what caused the problem, as blueskirt42 explained below.

Attached is my save game (the last saved game of Playing with Fire, which means when you load it, you'll get to the campaign selection screen and get to choose Foolhardy Waywardness). I have the DVD, not the GOG version, but I believe save games are compatible.

Since GOG only allows picture attachments, I had to change the extension to png. Just download the file, and change the extension to .CGM

Haha, I've got only Armageddon's Blade, so between the two of us we can help anybody.
(I finished all of HoMM3 Complete long ago, but I just recently replayed Armageddon's Blade to brush up on the story after MM7).

Here's my saves for both campaigns, should I happen to be AFK when someone needs them, you'll be able to help anybody:

Restoration of Erathia
- http://www.mediafire.com/download/isyfhw8uw60wl2y/The+Restoration+Of+Erathia.CGM
Shadow of Death
- http://www.mediafire.com/download/dooaicv1ttv6os8/The+Shadow+Of+Death.CGM

I unfortunately can't remember for the life of me if those were made with the DVD version or the GOG version.

Guys, I have the game saved just prior to ending the Playing with Fire Campaign and at completion of the campaign. The menu shows a gold checkmark next to the campaign I just completed, but the final campaign is greyed out and the ONLY option is the BACK button. That's it. I can't click on the greyed out campaign, and once I go back, the I'm back to the standard menu.

It only shows a gold checkmark next to the campiagn you just completed, right? Not next to any of the other ones? That's because you went through New Game before you started it.

What you should have done is when you reached this screen after finishing the first campaign, immediately start the second one (without going through New Game), and so on with all the other ones. After that you'd have gotten check marks on all campaigns as you complete them. You can load the saved game I attached to check.

In short: every time you click New Game, it completely erases all your progress.

It is not the only option, when you are on this screen you can click on the other campaigns, you can click on Festival Of Life, on Dragon Slayer, on Armageddon's Blade, on Dragon's Blood. And if you had done that just after you completed your first campaign, you'd have collected gold check marks on every single one of those campaigns and when all five campaigns had been completed, the sixth one would have unlocked.

You'd think the game is smart enough to remember which campaign you finished, but it isn't, the only way for the game to remember which campaign you finished is through savegames. Every campaign savegames have those little flags to remember "Those campaigns and these missions have been completed prior to this scenario", and if you don't save your game after you complete a campaign, and if you don't load that savegame prior to starting a new campaign, the game has no way to remember which campaign you completed, and if you start a new campaign by using the "New Game > Campaign > Armageddon's Blade" buttons in the main menu, rather than by using "Load Game > Campaign", the game will think you are starting the expansion from scratch.

Yes, I know it's a pretty stupid mechanic. I should know, the first time I played this game, I finished the Long Live The Queen campaign, and then I fired up the Dungeons And Devils campaign from the main menu, completed it, and then I wondered why only Dungeons And Devils had a little gold check mark next to it, although I had completed Long Live The Queen before, and then I figured out what I did wrong, and I had to play Long Live The Queen from scratch a second time, making sure I now had gold check marks next to both Dungeons And Devils and Long Live The Queen when I finished it, before I could proceed in the campaign. Thankfully that campaign was pretty damn easy the second time around, when you know what to do and where the enemy castles are.

Now you have two options:
A - You continue with your savegame made after Playing With Fire, and you replay the whole expansion from scratch, this time making sure you've been collecting gold check marks on every single campaign in the campaign screen.
B - You download the savegame supplied by ZFR, that savegame has all the gold check marks necessary to unlock Foolhardy Waywardness, all you have to do is load the game, click on Foolhardy Waywardness and finish this expansion once for all.

Thanks guys. Finally got to the campaign, but had to do a lot of replay to get there.

THANK YOU!!! I was afraid I'd had to do all the other campaigns again. Fool me for starting a new game every time. I had finished all of Restoration campaigns before, but just hadn't remembered the right way to save and continue. Thank you! :)
