Hello there,

so i just bought Heroes 3 complete and installed it, installed the universal update, after that the HD mod and updated it.

Now when i want to start Heroes 3 via the HD Launcher it says "The Binkw32.dll is installed in the windows or windows system directory - it must be installed in the application directory".

Now i checked the game directory and there is a Binkw32.dll. So i copied it to the system32 directory but that doesn't help. When i start the heroes.exe (not via hd launcher) the game just starts and works fine.

I also installed the Horn of the Abyss expansion and this expansion can be launched from the HD launcher without any error message.

So, what is the problem here? Of course i could play it from the original exe but the resolution looks pretty crap at my 1920*1080 screen.

PS I use Windows 7.

Thanks for your help.

Bye

Try this:

1. Reinstall game.
2. Reinstall updates/patches.
3. Update video card drivers.
4. Download and install RAD Video Tools : http://www.radgametools.com/down/Bink/RADTools.exe
1. tried, no solution
2. tried, no solution
3. i search for device updates every week
4. installed it, but nothing happened. is there more to do then just installing this RAD Tool?

Don't put binkw32.dll in the system32 folder. Actually it shouldn't be anywhere in the Windows folder. Use Window's search function and check C:\Windows and all its subfolders (include hidden and system files).
If you find it there, it might be registered in Windows so unregister it.

Open the Window's command shell as Administrator (see here).
Type
regsvr32 -u Binkw32.dll
and execute the unregistration of Binkw32.dll with <Enter>
Now rename the files you've found inside C:\Windows or its subfolders.
Make sure the Binkw32.dll is still in the game's installation folder.

If you've got your game installed in Program Files, uninstall it and re-install it to a custom location like C:\GOG Games\
