Hi everyone !

I am running Hexen on Russian (or now International i guess) Hexen and i have a gamebreaking problem.

I am currently on the second Hub named Shadow Wood. I have only one switch left to open the main large door and that one is located in the Wastelands map. The first time through the map i had no problems at all. Now that i re-enter it, when the first vertical rock pillar is triggered (the ones that come out of the ground all over the stage) my character gets stuck and starts running in place. This happens even if i'm flying with the wings ! I've even tried noclipping and i still end up getting stuck. This happens even if i am nowhere near the pillars, i just here the sound they make when they come out of the ground and boom, stuck.

Does anyone know any way to bypass or fix this problem ?

Thanks in advance.

At the least, this seems to be a known issue--see this video from Civvie.

Civvie does mention that the issue has been patched out in the version that they were playing on. It seems from earlier in the above-linked video that they're using an engine port called "Russian Doom"--perhaps either using that port or simply checking for updates to the version that you're using might help.
Thank you for your answer !

To be honest i tried searching for it online and no results came up, neither was it referenced anywhere in either of the two wikis i looked at so i thought this was a specific to me issue (i never watch Civvie videos if i haven't finished the game first with the exception of Postal games).

I downloaded a more recent version of the source port, but unfortunately it does not recognize my saves so i'd have to replay the whole game up to that point.

The solution Civvie shows in his video with the map editing is a valid one i guess (haven't tried it), but it's essentially jumping through hoops to get the game to work.

I am thinking of leaving this thread open for some more time, in case someone has a direct solution, but at least thanks to you i know that:
a) it's a known issue at least for an older version of the source port and
b) it's been fixed in newer versions.

Ah, yeah, that is a tricky position: it's a pain to have to re-play a chunk of the game over again so soon after first playing it, and as you say, editing the levels to remove the spikes is a convoluted solution. :/

I don't have another solution myself right now, I'm afraid, so indeed, I hope that someone else has an alternative to offer!

(I do hear you on not watching such videos until you've already played the game! If you already have the game and intend to play it, then watching such a video before so playing would I think somewhat spoil the experience.)
