Any way to end up with 1.0 or whatever the original release was? My last CD is now dead, and we vastly prefer the item respawning that Serpent Riders disabled.

There actually exists Heretic v1.2 as well. You can downgrade your IWAD to that version with Omniscient. There is no downgrade patch for the engine, though. So, compatible source-port should be used.

P. S. Alternatively, you can downgrade to v1.0 and upgrade to version 1.2 with an offical patch. Thus problem with DOS engine will be solved too.
