Is this still an unsolvable issue? I can't find anything about it more recent than 2017.

Somehting: UE4 Hellblade has crashed ... on startup. Seems like a GOG problem becouse everyone with this problem seems to point to GOG forum. It was not a problem at the start but right now i tried 6 times in a row an gotten this error at first it was more random, so that was it for tonight becouse i logged out to find out that i also had a Pc bug with the third Raven door, at the last part the Raven door just do not activate, and i checked on youtube and i stand on the exact same pont as the dude is opening the door on that video, probably a 4k bug ... oh my!

I always wait some time before bying PC games to avoid this shit ... does not always help
Both was bugs

1. Gog does clearly not support handcontrolloer on the game but Steam do, so all these errors point to GOG, that is the reason. unplugged controller, working.

2. I tought the aline door was a 4 k bug, i was correct (Lastt Raven door), i had to set the screen on 1920x1080 (all above failed) to align the sign and make it stick to the door, as fast as i changed to this resolution i could open door in 3 sec ....
Ok, so I'm having this problem as well. Running with an Intel i7 9700k, 16GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 2060 with driver 451.67.

Any kind of overlay is disabled, Steam not running in the background (frankly I find these suggestions laughable as they are 99.9999% never the problem)

If this is a problem with the Unreal engine and there's no known fix for Nvidia cards, then perhaps GOG should have posted somewhere up front on the store page that there might be issues. I now have a product that I paid for that I cannot use.
Just run a verify repair, it should download a 133mb or so file and fix the issue.
There seems to be an issue when installing the game. When I installed it a couple days ago, it had a popup saying to uninstall UE4 to complete installation.. I thought that was pretty weird but didn't try until now. Looks like the same issue from 2017 and was never fixed, shame.
I've downloaded that update about 4 times now. 3 times after first installation (clicking verify/repair downloads the update every time without modifying any files manually. In other words, I can download the 133 mb update, then click verify/repair again right away and it will download again. The 4th time was after a re install of the game, and then verify / repair.

Still getting the same error, as soon as the game starts, i get a UE4 fatal error popup, and then nothing.
I know this is an old post but I bought the game on sale and played it without errors for a long time and then today it wouldn't start giving me the "Fatal error" popup.

I tried googling the problem and I couldn't find a solution. People say nVidia drivers and UE4 problems.

I did however find a way to start the game. Using the Galaxy client and selecting the options/filter icon for the game and select Additional executables and then select the DX11 version of the game I can run the game but I can't play it.

Once it launches I get audio and a black screen. Pressing ESC gives me a weirdly black and white rendered options menu that doesn't fit the screen. Since everything is black is unplayable.

Weird thing is that it's the same machine and Windows install and game install as the last time I played it and no patch has been released since 2018 so perhaps a Windows or DirectX or nVidia driver was the problem. I don't know.
I finally found a way around it.

It's because of my Oculus Rift - if you start the game and have a VR headset it crashes.
You can stop the service "Oculus VR Runtime Service" and the game doesn't throw an error anymore and just works.

I also noticed that Hell Blade is displayed 2 times in my GoG library - one normal and one "VR"-edition.

They are separate installs but perhaps one needs to download the VR version if you have a VR headset even though you don't want to use VR (that I haven't tested).
