Danke.

I loved I-War* and I am very curious about Helium Rain. But I havent played it yet. Who played both games and can give a short comparism between both games? What is the feeling of space and space-flight? Thanks in advance.

Having played I-war 2 vanilla, the free form version of I-war-2 and Torn Stars (the modification) Helium-Rain comes close to it, but is in effect much less complex and deep in comparision.

In I-war and I-war 2 the depth of the ship's system management for example is much more elaboratedc, what is almost non existent here. It is a bit of a pity that they did go all the way - although it could very much be done by someone who has programming capabilities. If you download the dev kit from epic games store, and have a look under the hood you can see that it is there. There is just not an interface like in I-War 2 to manage priorities.

The same goes for the load out of the ship you're flying. Loading out a ship in I-War 2 is awesome. It has a serious repercussion on how much you 'blink' on enemy sensors depending on your gamestyle. You can go in stealthy or guns blazing. something that is missing here.

What game-play is concerned - Helium-Rain and I-war 2 share the similarity of Newtonian flight.

I don't know how to describe this - maybe it's because I am older now.... but Helium Rain fails to 'pull me in'. I remember playing I-war 2 and getting sucked into the lore feeling like Cal Johnston - the atmosphere and the realism was there.

While I-War and I-War 2 were and still are masterpieces, Helium Rain is an unpolished diamond, same as X-Rebirth VR who for some reason has a lot deeper atmosphere than HR, but does not seem to appeal to people.

Helium Rain is a good game but it's barebones. What it shines is in it's ability to be easily modifiable.

You can add in ships, weapons etc even if you know nothing of 3D modeling. It's an engine that could be the cornerstone of an I-War 2 Freeform Remake.

What I would love to see is a game that combines the following games into one:

I-War2 / I-War 1 (missions - atmosphere - gameplay - ships - dog-fighting and ship system management mechanics - universe and sytem names - LDS)
Duskers / Iron Helix - boarding and capturing ships with drones - remote view - atmosphere
Tartarus / Alien Isolation ship interiors and retro futuristic consoles
Objects in space : Repairs, navigation, comms
Mission Critical / Nexus the jupiter incident / Iron Helix - Ship models
X-Rebirth VR - station parts and general station design
X wing Vs Tie Fighter / Tie Fighter's gameplay and deepness.

All achieved with Helium Rain's dev kit moddability.

Hello,

For those who would like a taste of I-War in the Helium Rain engine, I've started work on a mod:

1) download here: www.mediafire.com/file/8330piozg0664rq/I-War_Test.pak/file
2) copy the file to GOG games\HeliumRain\HeliumRain\Content\Paks

Start the game and choose Skirmish

Remember to configure the NSO Corvettes with the PBC turret available in the loadout screen.

Enjoy

PS as an added bonus, I have added 5 extra ships to the Helium Rain game as well using assets from the game. They are included in the mod above.

The ships are:

- Kelvin (scout class)
- Starfish (cutter class)
- Solaris (3 different versions of freighters)
- Basilisk (Blockade Runner)
- Bismarck (Blockade Buster)

Screenshots can be found here:

I added the music from Mr Mann as well, but HR doesn't seem to register it.... yet

Enjoy

I tried the pak - lot of fun to see a nice I-War corvette in action again!

Memory lane.
