I realize this game says it's not supported for OS X 10.9+, but are there any plans to make this thing run on newer versions of OS X?

I tried running the application in the terminal. Received the following error:

LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Applications/Hammerwatch.app/Contents/Resources/game/Hammerwatch.app.

Wont launch on my Macbook Pro either. Running OSX 10.11.4. Even tried installing the latest version of Mono. Nothing.

So this is definitely a Mono Framework issue from reading the crash logs. Installing the latest version of Mono manually is no help either. I then tried install version 2.10.9 of Mono, which the game crash log seems to say the game is looking for and alas that did not resolve the issue either. Has the dev abandoned the Mac version of this game?
Found the solution in the dev forums, but not a great one. Apparently you have to reboot and disable a security feature on the Mac. This is something Apple implemented to prevent malicious code from what I am reading. So this means to play this game you will have to disable this security feature and then reboot and reenable it afterwards. Quite a pain to play just this game, but it does work when I tested it.

Can you try out version 1.3.2 of the game and see if this issue persists?

Yep. That fixed it. You no longer have to disable System Integrity Protection on the Mac to run this game. Great update for Mac users.

glad to see you found my post over there... Took me months to figure this out. Too bad it took so long to figure out. I've also started noticing on many other games now, you have to change the internal application and give it execute privileges. I had to do this with Humble-bundle's Door Kickers and the playable trailer released for Overload (the new Descent game).Hopefully this helps with future issues you may run into for other games too.

Thanks for posting this! Though... when I try to open the game, the past three times I get a message saying “Hammerwatch.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash." Do you have any suggestions?

Try this:

- Go to Applications -> Terminal
- Type in:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine but don't press Enter.
- Drag the application to the Terminal window, this should add the path.
- Press Enter.

and see if that helps :)
