Greetings from your Galactic Overlord,
Whenever I start Legion of Iron, the game screen shrinks and I am sent to the desktop. When I click on the game on the taskbar, it goes to full screen , but shrinks again -- almost immediately. After a while of clicking, shrinking and raging, it stops shrinking and I can play normally. This is not so with the Solon Heritage. The shrinking never ends and it is impossible to play. In both cases, I can see that the main menu is working for the brief moment that it's visible. Does anyone know what's going on?
Sincerely,
Lord Xenu (or is it Xemu?)

That's a weird one
Maybe try disabling visual themes ?
Right click the shortcut, switch to the compatibility tab and tick the appropriate checkbox.

Nope. Still freakin out.
EDIT: WAIT! It does work. LOI minimized once, but did not a second time. SH didn't do it at all. Thank you.
EDIT: EDIT: WTF? It started again... >:[

Ok, try to also apply 'Run as Admin' to the shortcut.
When the game minimizes itself, try to see what processes you have running in the task manager. Try to close everything you don't need to have running.
Got it working (kinda). I just set the launch properties to run in maximized mode. Now, instead of minimizing randomly, it maximizes randomly. It's doing it now as I type this, but that's a lot less annoying than not being able to play it.
this is happening to me also
This also happens to me if I have my email client (thunderbird in my case) open during play.

Simply closing the client before playing the game prevents the issue from occurring.

I suspect there may also be undesired interactions with other applications - ultimately, this a game from before the days that people had several displays and expected to be able to move seamlessly from game to app.
