I filed this report at support:

Hi there,
I am playing the Legions of Iron single player campaign, in 1600*1200. I am on campaign three, where spy ships and cruisers are supposedly available (there was an announcement at some point in the game).
I have researched all technologies under "Ship tech", however I can't research "Spy ship" or "Cruiser".
I accidentally clicked to the wrong place once and I noticed that the "Spy ship" research became selected.
I did some further investigation and as it turns out, the font is too large in 1600*1200 to display the entire list of the research list, resulting in a LOT of technologies being cut off from the list, and being unable to research any of those.
If I changed the resolution to 1024*768, I would be able research all of those - but then I would be forced to play most of the game in low-res and switch resolution every now and then.
An alternative would be selecting the research from the research tree (the items are visible there), however clicking on the items does not start the research.
The lack of research renders the game unplayable, since I am beaten easily by the AI.
Could you try fixing this or contact Digital Reality to do so?

Yes, me too, i have the same problem.
I just discovered today, like you, when i selected a new research outside research window.
I have a 22" wide screen monitor and a video card Geforce 8800GTS and i play game in 1280*960 only, because i dont have a bigger resolution in game graphic option.
I will try to test with other drivers (maybe older or maybe newer) to see if is working, but not now, so if some1 will find a solution in this time, please post here.
Another problem i have is when i try to change in game resolution, my screen is going black and i need to use alt+tab and task manager to close the game.
After i start the game again, the resolution seems to be changed (i play some other games too, newer and older and i didn't have problems like this, so i dont think is hardware problem from my pc).
Anyway i will try to install other drivers to test if something will change or not.

It seems that the only resolution when the research list is shown properly is 1024*768. Go any higher and some research items will be cut off from the list. The higher the resolution, the less research items displayed. *update*: Once you start stealing inventions from other races, you won't be able to list all inventions unless you play in 800*600.
I grabbed the modding tools in an attempt to modify the UI, but there are no tools included to unpack and repack the BMOD files - which might be the key to fix this issue. See the files under .\Haegemonia - Legions of Iron\GFX\Interface\Research

As for the resolution change: it will always that flickering on modern card, the driver update won't help. Just change the resolution from the game. When the flicker starts, wait a few secs for the new resolution to be set, hit ESC and then ALT+F4 to quit.
FYI: You can set the resolution via the registry as well - I managed to set it to 1920*1200 and it works, though the resolution in the registry "resets" to 800*600 when I quit the game. This "reset" can be avoided by denying write access to the registry keys.

Yup, you are right, only way to see all items from research list is to play on 800*600 resolution. I discovered this too, because from some time already i was stealing researched items from enemy and i couldn't find some of them in my research list because was full.
After i changed resolution to 800*600 everything became normal again.
And it seems that biger resolution make all interface to look biger too instead smaller.
And I cant see any other differences between resolutions anyway.

running on 19 inch ...aint working very well :(
can't see research and im not a regiistry genius so i have no idea how to fix this lawl...

The best way I found to fix the issue is to run the game at 800*600 resolution and then crank the anti-aliasing to 16x from the video card settings. It isn't the most ideal situation, but it makes it playable.

definitely have the same problem. This is a huge bug and very annoying. Hopefully something can be done to fix it.

Well, i wasn't getting the cruiser or spy ship regardless of resolution, then i turned off the trainer i was using and it appeared, so i will have to avoid the trainer, but i guess i can give myself all the research points and then quit the trainer.

But when it comes to this resolution problem, i get this issue also, which really makes me abit disappointed with the purchase, the game is fun to play, don't get me wrong

I am hoping that these guys at GOG can either patch it themselves to have like a scroll bar, which would ultimately solve the issue all together and i am sure digital anvil is decent enough to allow such a fix or to do it themselves.

it is the patch v 1.09 if you dont instal the patch then ther is on resolution problem you can change all resolution and stil hawe all the reaserch avilable

the v1.09 patch change the in game fonts and make more space betwen lines
and the text fits only in 4:3 resolutions

i use the v1.07 patch works fine the game is stil fun and 1.05 trainers work to nont all but some.

Yeah well, we don't install patches though we get the games as GoG delivers them. So to play 1.07 we have to use a 1.07 crack. Which is ok, honestly. At least for me. I don't really care.

But you gotta know this first if you buy the game and maybe get stuck and/or frustrated....

Since this is a bug introduced with the official 1.09 patch, I think the best course of action for GOG would be to put the 1.07 patched version of the game on their servers. Indefinitely or until they somehow are able to fix this (not that they have any obligations to do that at all ^^).

Well I can't see how this is marked as solved. Only version I can download now is v1.09 and besides that v1.07 didn't work on Windows 10 anyway so I would not use it.

When I use 800x600 resolution the game looks like crap.

For all people that have this issue: there is a workaround.

Let me explain: If you click the rotating 3D model in the middle of the research screen the view of the research tree pops up. If you right-click an item in that view the research tree view close and the normal research view appears again. The research item you have clicked on is now selected. That means you can also start researching it :-)

This way you can research all item even if they are not shown in the list view due to the bug mentioned above.
