Hey friends, I just used the little flag icon on the game's Steam page to tell them how broken Gunship and Gunship 2000 is. I also wrote GOG support detailing everything we've found out about this game's botched release, and asked them to remove it as well.

Please report the game as broken on Steam via their Steam page, and please contact GOG and ask them to take it down until it's fixed.

Together, maybe we can convince Atari to fix their mistake. Thank you.
Done. Reported.

Thank you!
Here's the contact form at Atari's website. Please write them and ask them to take this down until it's fixed.

No need to write us! We are going to get the most up to date versions onto GOG asap. Mistake on our side, it was always our intent to use the later, more complete versions of these titles. As soon as we have a date confirmed we will report back.

Excellent, looking forward to it, thank you.

"More complete"? As opposed to "pirated version we stole from an abandonware site?"

I'd give them time to correct these wrongs. We give other grade-A developers, building more expensive games and getting away with far worse, a pass.

They can't steal something they rightfully own. Perhaps it is the abandonedware sites that are pirates, hosting games that are in fact, not abandoned. Give Atari a chance to buy a copy off eBay and then do the right thing with it.

That's not true at all. If someone goes and makes a camcorder recording of a new movie in a theater, that doesn't give the movie studio the right to then go and resell that recording just because they have the rights to the movie itself. That's not how any of this works. And obviously, no movie studio in its right mind would ever do that. But that's pretty much exactly what Atari is doing.
The example with the Camcorder is not great because of copyright laws and movies.

But... The issue is more serious. Software gets copyrighted automatically. The third party whose files were used has copyright on their work.

He probably created launchers, bat files, custom files with dosbox settings.

These are hardly complex by themselves but they are still a product of his labor and are protected as software.

It's both a legal and and a moral issue that could have been solved with a simple polite email request.
Well, the game was updated today, but I still don't think it's a 1:1 match with retail CD copies, although the game now mounts an ISO. The roster has been sanitized completely.

Same beta test code?

Perhaps, I haven't really kept up with the beta. Not that it matters, since it seems it's no longer in beta :P.
Sanitizing the roster sounds really bad to be honest.

It should include the original roster:
