Hi guys, just downloaded this without any problems, but no matter what I do I simply cannot get GC2 tow work for me. I've tried running it in multiple compatibility modes and to no avail. I always get a black screen. Oddly enough, running with Windows 2000 compatibility prompted a "This Program has stopped responding" message while Windows XP compatibility gave me an error message stating that it couldn't load the game data.
Any tips for me?

Thanks!

Check this thread. Maybe the problem is the missing font.

For some strange reason the game works just fine now! I'm not sure what changed, but it works. Thanks for the tip.

Is it strange that I can't get the original GC to work now... it just crashes to desktop or stops responding (sometimes both) when I try to launch it.

That's a bit weird.

Are you launching the game from gog's shortcut or are you launching through the .exe ?
I'm convinced there is something really odd with GC1.

Although I've never had issues running either game (GC + Expansion) I get some bizzare framerate issues.

In D3D mode at 1024x768 the game will stutter (jerky fps) and yet another day I will launch it and it's silky smooth.

I cannot seem to capture what causes this and to my knowledge I've not made any obvious changes to my environment.

I'm on Win7 64bit and have Nvidia 8800gt cards.

I can recreate this random jerkyness without re-cyling the OS too.
It appears to be complete pot luck whether the game will be silky smooth or jerky.
The only thing I can be confident about is it never happens in software mode at 640x480.

I've tried everything I can think of as far as settings for my graphics cards but as the issue is random I've made no progress.

Apologies in advance, I'm not trying to hi-jack your thread here, but I honestly believe the random (game launches or wont syndrome you are experiencing may be related by some random variable too).

Other things I've tried (I have quad core proc) is to change the affinity and vary the cpu's being used. I've tried installing with and without the expansion pack too to see if they were over writing a shared config file (but again all to no avail).

:)
Oh, no, that's perfectly fine. Like you said, it may just help!

This is really strange though, because for a while there GC2 worked fine, but now it refuses to open once again. It just stops responding upon launch and crashes ro just crashes. Still can't get the original to work. Reinstalling it again...

Running on Windows 7 64-bit as well with a 1024 (MB) NVIDIA GT335M GeForce card (if that helps).

O.o

For me: Dual screen + Ground Control 2 + Windows 7 = crash at startup.

I made it work by disabling dual screen temporarily.
My AVG is removing the gc.exe as Trojan threat

please answer ASAP!!!

I'm an NVidia man as well, and I've convinced myself over the years that NVidia has a serious memory leak problem, probably somewhere in the on-board memory of their cards. Like you, I can recycle the OS, and it will sometimes still be jerky. But have you shut off your computer and restarted?

I lost count of the number of times that restarting Windows did NOT do the trick... but if I shut off the computer, it's silky smooth every single time. I can think of only one thing that could cause this... memory on the card not getting cleared with a reboot. Or it could be a hardware issue as well. Either way, try shutting off your PC for 30 sec. and see if that helps. Doesn't hurt to try. I've experienced this problem for years, with every NVidia card I ever owned, and shutting down always solved it.

Thanks a lot! This worked for me.

Windows 7 x64 SP1
AMD Radeon 6950
Ironically I am just the opposite, works fine on my Nvidia 580, won't work on my AMD 7970m (but could be the enduro software is causing the problem)
