I played a 3D RTS demo long ago, I dare to say it may have been one of the first 3D RTS but I'm not sure, in this RTS you could deploy/summon vehicles and then assume control of the vehicle with FPS controls. Is Ground Control anything like it?

Edit: Nevermind, I actually found the game I was talking about, it's called urban assault, anyway, what makes ground control so good?

NightK, I'd recommend you to check out the demo of Ground Control 1. You can find it here: http://www.shacknews.com/file/2656/ground-control-demo

It's hard to say why it appeals to a certain part of gamers. Maybe it's because at the time when it came out, there were hardly any true 3D RTS games out there. Think C&C and the likes. Only 2D sprites moving on fake-isometric battlefields. Also, you don't have base building in any of the two GC games, which is also a bonus for many gamers. You just don't build an army and tank-rush your enemy. Instead, you move slowly, carefully, methodically, trying to use your few units as best as you can.

Also, GC1 and GC2 have aged beautifully. Try the demo, you can't do anything wrong with that.
