I thought it'd be possible but apparently it's a all or nothing.

I've originally done the game in French when it came out but I'd like to play it in english here but I'd rather have the french subtitles. I checked the options and when I change the language it changes all the menus.

Is there a way to do what I want?

Also, they shouldn't have used google to translate to french: it's full of mistakes.

"In the game folder you find files like "grim.en.tab" and "grim.es.tab". The *.tab files contain all the text in the game.
Now if you swap the name of the two text files and select english ingame, the game will have english voices and spanish menu/ action prompt/ subtitle text."

Bless you.

I really don't understand why they don't put this as an option in games...

That's americans for you I guess. :P

Probably because it didn't cross their minds. The actual implementation for it should be pretty easy.
At some point, I had coded a small (and somewhat poor) stub in Bennyboy's excellent Grim Fandango launcher for the original to allow switching between the subtitles languages (the official English and the fan made greek), that basically did the renaming thingie. Ofcourse the developers should be able to do something more smart and integrate it to the game's UI.

It's quite possible that if enough people ask for it, it will be part of a future patch for the game.

It never crosses their minds, cdpr does it for witcher, but they are polish and international. Americans are really closed on themselves considering their language.

Well, at least we get several localisation at launch, unlike for Telltale games who don't give a flying fuck about this.

But anyway, thanks again for the answer, hope it'll help others! :)
