This is sort of a follow-up thread to the last one.

I finally relented and installed Grim Fandango Remastered on my desktop computer.

At last, the game actually launched after double-clicking. But after the opening cinema, I was faced with a black background and walking Manny's sprite around it.

Lo and behold, I switch the resolution from remastered to original and, while I still faced some ugly looking characters, the backgrounds came back and it ran smoothly and fast unlike the original boxed copy where without 3D Acceleration it was all choppy and rough.

But that just saddened me further as now that I know I can play the original like I wanted, my laptop still can't get the game to launch no matter what I do. All graphic cards have been updated, even.

Makes me think "Why don't they just re-release the original, un-remastered"? It would certainly be better than using all those alternate launch menus and setups just to get my boxed original running. And even then, both computers lack 3D Acceleration and the characters just move horribly and look dreadful.

I certainly hope they do. Because I can't access the original graphics option on my laptop because the remastered version won't even LAUNCH! Unlike on my desktop computer.

It should be possible for them to either offer direct access to the original game. I am not sure how much unremastered it would be, I am assuming at the very least that certain bugfixes have been implemented directly into the original engine.
The game uses the original engine and the files seem to have been kept to the same format.

It is quite likely that even ResidualVM might eventually support accessing the original game from the installation folder of the remastered. But the TS is making a suggestion / wish about the remastered version that they already bought so they will be able to run it in their system.

No it doesn't but all these "I want the original" people should simply consider buying the disc. That way they could just not complain.

I am not sure that would have a good effect for anyone.
Buying the original, doesn't necessarily mean that you can run it without bugs or problems.
Sure the BennyBoy's Grim Fandango Launcher or ResidualVM will help you to launch it and play it in systems with hardware (way) older than 2 years. But it will still have bugs and glitches, and the only way for them to be fixed would be to complain/ report them to BennyBoy (quickandeasysoftware.net) or the ResidualVM team (www.residualvm.org).

While both of those might listen to feedback and eventually work on bugs, it is way better that we now have again active official support for the game.

And since it is not impossible to launch the game directly in the original mode (the registry.sav file mention in Double Fine forums), Double Fine could potentially offer some switch for direct access to the original mode precluding the option to switch to the remastered version and thus being possible to run the game in older hardware.

I HAVE the disk.

I told you, without 3D Acceleration, the characters move slow and choppy. Let's say I didn't own the original (which you failed to read in my original post by the way since I do own the original), HOW would I go about purchasing a copy that's

A) Not scratched beyond working order if looking for used

or

B) Brand new


I don't have hundreds of dollars to spare just so I can own a copy that requires alternate launch and setup menus. Nor do I intend to go scour every single corner of the internet or download a copy illegally while exposing my laptop to possible viruses.

Here's the thing: The re-mastered version has the original. You just switch off the new graphics system.

I'm ecstatic that I can run the original from the re-master on the desktop computer.

I am frustrated that the original is waiting there for my laptop but I cannot LAUNCH THE FRIGGIN GAME IN ORDER TO ACCESS THAT OPTION!

That's why I posed the question. If there is someway to make the original from the re-master available I'd be perfectly happy.
