Grim Fandango Remastered is my very first GOG install, and I'm disappointingly having audio problems.

Music and dialog are stuttering, although the cut scenes play fine (both in-game and by manually playing the OGV files). Graphics and mouse are smooth and fluid, only the audio is stuttering. Processor and RAM resources are not at all taxed.

I have made sure that my Windows audio settings are 16Bit 44.1KHz, and that all driver enhancements are disabled. I have tried all combinations of in-game graphics and audio settings to no avail. I have tried running the game in compatibility mode and as an Administrator, I have disabled the Windows Game Bar, and I have enabled DirectPlay under Windows legacy components.

I have tried both Intel integrated graphics, and a NVIDIA GeForce 8600, though as I said the game play graphics are seemingly not the problem. Desktop resolution is 1920 x 1200.

Does anyone have other suggestions? I searched GOG's website, but their general troubleshooting tips for DOSbox don't seem to apply to this game. Wider web searches indicate that recent game patches solved this audio problem, but not for me. What am I doing wrong?

Windows 10 Pro x64 version 1709 (fall creators update)
VIA VT2021 Audio (default Windows drivers)
Intel i5 3570 with 8GB RAM

Same problem here. stutters after reboot, system is not taxed, no other applications running

Realtek Audio hardware
Acer e5-575g-53vg
nvidia 940mx 2gb
i5-6xxx
8g ram
ssd
I have the same problem with all Double FIne remasters. From time to time the audio stutters and plays very slowly, usually it get's better after a minute o two.

Audio:
Asus ROG Xonar Phoebus Solo, set to 7.1, 192kHz and 24 Bit
intel i5-4670, 32 GB RAM
Geforce GTX 1070

It also happened on a completely different laptop however.
A quick google suggests running it in full screen mode outside of Galaxy may solve the issue.

I don't have an install to test that though.
I have the same problem with audio stuttering. It started right after entering rebel base...
Here is a solution:
1) set compatibility mode for Windows 98 / Windows Me
2) Open a browser (mine is chrome), go to youtube and play a video
3) Run the game

Why this works?!! I don't know. Maybe DoubleFine cares to explain?!!

Very late reply but posting this here anyways, maybe it will help someone who has this same issue.
For me this was due to driver issue, and I was able to fix by following this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSjVja-0EDg.

In case the video does not display:
1) Right click My Computer (or navigate to Device Manager directly)
2) Open Device Manager
3) Select audio- ,video- and game devices
4) Choose high definition audio
5) Go to drivers tab
6) Click update drivers
7) Choose option "find driver from this computer"
8) Choose option "select from list of usable drivers"
9) Choose High Definition Audio device
10) Click next and ignore the error saying the device might not work blah blah (it works)
11) Apply changes and close Device Manager
I had the same issue. I just configured my sound adapter playback to 16 bit, 44100 Hz while playing, that's it. Solved. Hope it is useful for you. No compatibility mode changes.
