higher attributes rather than a high armor fit or high resistances?
is high armor worth more than high attributes?

How am I doing at level 72 for this game? I am not doing so well in the paying debts mission with morgoneth as I am on my 6 try and can't keep up with making keys. I must suck at this game.

Heavy Pants armor is 1120
helm armor is 1030
The heavy shoulder armor is 1030
Heavy Gloves amor is 892
Belt armor 66
Boots 930
The weapon is an empowered soulsplitter 196-354 aether damage, 195% aether damage 18% attack speed most of my damage devotions are in aether damage and to all damage %/attributes.

health is 8650 strong.
energy is 1243 strong

Attributes are Phys-1254, cunning-709, and spirit-392.

how do I look to you as a level 71 playing in a normal setting game?

What should I look like at level 71 do you think? I can set higher amor at a big cost to my attributes.

Okay, problems I see.

You're maxing out skills and haven't climbed the mastery bar enough plus you haven't taken a second mastery yet.

Your damage type is all over the place. Soldier deals mainly physical/internal trauma, yet you have gear that gives you nearly all the different types of damage in the game. Concentrate on finding items that give physical/internal trauma damage.

Same with your devotions, they all over the place with damage types.

If you want to stick with Soldier for the time being then maybe try something like this.

That leaves one point over and you could remove blue and purple on Crossroads if you wanted to use those elsewhere too.

Some of your resistances are rather low.
Also, you might check out the blacksmiths for some craftable components. There are several components that can significantly raise your resistances (some with activated skills like imbued silver for example).
