CaesarKevin: Hi,
I bought the game on GOG. Just installed it through the client 1.2.66. Attempted to play and it full screen played the intro video and then game crashed before getting to menu screen. Found this forum and read about the patch links. Found the files and downloaded. Didn't ask for an old installer from GOG as the game is already installed so I dont understand why one needs an old installer. Anyways tried to copy the first exe patch and it wouldn't paste due to the file or folder being used in another application. Renamed the old exe and pasted the patch. Game launched but menu page messed up. Closed and copied in the "nm" version of the second link and tried that, clicking on it directly from the game's folder, not useing the desktop icon shortcut. No intro video and an even more messed up menu screen launched. Had to use task manager to close. unistalled game. What am I doing wrong? Not a windows programmer here, just a 39 y/o wanting to play a good old game from long ago that Windows 10 doesn't use my old CD anymore. Whats the deal with an "old installer" from GOG if they install the game via the client? How is this done, step by step? Do you even have to do it? I saw a post that said these patches work with the "new installer", so what does that mean if the client installs the game? Again, not a windows programmer here. Can someone please write out the full steps and sub steps so a simple guy like me can do this walkaround windows 10 thing properly and just play the old game. Thank you in advance to whomever can do it.
Kevin
You need the old installer for Caesar to work. I don't know why but the new installer seems to be broken for Caesar. It looks like it instals properly but then you can't launch a single battle. At least thats how it was for me. As for your other problems follow the instructions posted by DreaperF4
1.- Old installer setup_great_battles_ce_2.0.0.16
2.- Patches from www.ianm1.plus.com/html/patches.html
3.- Patch from www.ianm1.plus.com/html/great_battles_new_version.html
4.- Start each game with the exe (caesar.exe, etc) and NOT from the desktop shotcut
