Hi!

I'd just like to know, whether I'll be able to continue my savegame, if I uninstall the System Kit. It breaks jumping for me (no ledges higher than the player character's head can be climbed, while that should actually be possible - I've played this game through "back in the day" and faced none such problems). Some Google research showed me I'm not alone with this problem. Apparently it's the FPS unlock contained in the System Kit that breaks jumping in Gothic (at least for some players).

It sucks having to resort to Marvin+F8 for every ledge Gothic doesn't let me climb anymore. I'd rather forego the technical achievements of the System Kit, than having to play the game like this.

So yeah, I need to get rid of the System Kit. Can I do that and continue playing?

[Edit:] Oh yeah, it's Gothic 1 I'm talking about. Haven't checked out any G2 mods, so far. That'll have to wait till I'm done with this game.

Okay, being as impatient as I am right now (that problem really bugged me), I went ahead and tried. Apparently you can't just deinstall the System Kit and leave the Player Kit in without breaking things. I tried that, and Gothic suddenly started in windowed mode, although that wasn't set anywhere (Systemkit.ini was gone, and the windowed option in gothic.ini was and is set to 0). Also, the FPS unlock wasn't gone.

Anyway, now that I'm running Gothic in its original form again, everything works fine. Jumping up that one tower to get that second book from that one quest isn't supposed to be difficult at all (there's tons of posts from people all over the net about that one). Without any mods, you can simply pull yourself up all of the ledges; no balancing on beams or anything like that necessary.

It's a bummer. My monitor has a native resolution of 1680x1050, which is just above that highest setting Gothic permits (1440x900). And an FPS of 25 is tough.

But at least the game is properly playable again.

Why is the FPS unlock implemented in the Player Kit or the System Kit, anyway? That it can lead to problems, is known well enough. As far as I'm concerned, this should be an optional mod, as it has been in earlier versions, as far as I'm aware.
