First time through the game. Looking at the builds i could have went 2 handed paladin, an easy first build. But i went a dex based merc i want to be a bow player, with 1 handed as a backup early. I figured 2 handed paladin way to easy a build to do. Mage ill do if i want to do a 2nd time.

So, figured ill get the basic skills, thieving, skinning, learn some more skinning up by the merc camp. Get strength and dex to 34, get 1 handed and bows to 34.

Now, what should i do with stats/skills at this point. Almost reached that first objective. I hear i want to get dex to 64 so i can get good 1 handers and bows to use. Im thinking i won't raise strength over 34 with lps, let potions or what ever do what, and ill raise dex to 64 with lps, then let it raise with potions, etc. Need to get bow skill to 100+ thats where i figure ill be putting most of my LPS after dexterity, maybe not put any more lps into 1 handers, keep it at 34 since i want bows to be main focus.

If anyone went this route let me know if its good that way of if i need to focus on one over the other. Reaching soon for 64 dex in lps and the rest into bow skill lps. Should i raise strength with lps over 34 for any reason. Sure, 64 in strength would do better than 34 with 1 handers, but am i gong to use 1 handers that much later compared to a high bow skill. 34 base strength + boosts and a good 1 hander (high end rapier) with 34+ 1 handed skill to handle the weak foes.

I did go that route but, I don't remember! I do remember there is a dex based one-handed weapon that is quite good, I think 100 damage and that regardless of my build, I had to resort to magic for the final battle. I never did pay much attention to what others thought of a build, though - there's always two arguments so I just did what I thought best. Same for training. Someone else who has played more recently is bound to answer. I'd say try "World of Gothic" but they haven't had an English section in years. If you are fluent in german, that may be the place to ask.
well after reading up on some stuff, I think maybe won't even raise bow skill at all since that doesn't affect damage. Basic foes are close range, many harder foes are simple landscape mechanic abuse to shoot them from cliffs close range, so I think maybe basic just dexterity is the way to go. Also rethinking strength and 1 handed skill. If I get higher dex ill use the good rapier which has high damage, but my bow will be the main damage dealer, with the 1 hander as "if I need it". Having 34 1 handed skill is nice, for that 1-2 combo attack, but mmm is it really needed. Dropping both the 1 handed and strength, that's an extra 50 points I can put into dexterity to pick up those better weapons faster. So my 34 dexterity will jump up to 60 pretty easy. Then my 1 handed weapon which is now 45-50 damage will be instead the one that does what, 150 damage? Sure, 10% chance for crit vs 34%, but would basically work out, 1/3rd less crits vs 3x the base damage. Plus bow strength would be vastly better at 60 dex compared to 34.

But going full dex, really at higher levels raising dex 5 points costs 25 lps after level 120 I think. So just how good is 34 bow skill and 125 dex compared to 0 bow skill and 130 dex. I'm guessing those 5 points in dex aren't a big deal for that measly +5 damage compared to the better hit chance 34 bow skill does vs 0 bow skill. I'll probably raise bow skill later, I want to get dex as high as possible for bow damage and pickpocket. I can always throw some bow skill on later
