When I start up Gothic 2, my save files won't load. When I hover over the save file slots on the "load game" screen, the pictures of where I last saved at appear on the screen but the name of the save files don't show up. The save files are still on my computer.

This happened before and i turned off cloud sync for the save files then just started a new game all over. This worked until recently. Now I'm too far into the game to start over again.

I read on other forums that the issue may be due to saves from the previous chapters needing to be deleted. This would make sense in my case, too, since I just started chapter 2. However, when I look at my save folders, I don't see any Chapter 1 save files so I don't know what to do.

I'm attaching snippets of what my folders look like. The file path it is saved at is (C:) -> Program Files (x86) -> GOG Galaxy -> Games -> Gothic 2 Gold -> saves

Any and all help is appreciated. Please help if you know a fix for this. This is my first time playing the Gothic series and I love it so much so far. I'd even be willing to purchase from another website if I'm sure that there would be a way to transfer my saves over.

Two tips:
1 - never install any program to program files or x86 directories. Create a folder called c:/mygames and install the game to there.
2 - turn off galaxy completely. Run the game from the exe in the game folder. Ensure that galaxy is not running or has components loaded so that it cannot interfere with you computer.

Oh, and you can copy the saves folder out of there before you uninstall the game, that way you can keep them (the drm free way of storing your saves!). Then get the offline installers from the website (it’s the expandable under the game in your library), store those offline (the drm free way) and use those to install, no need for galaxy at all.
