Hey,
I recently got the game as part of the deal here, and I have been running in to problems. First videos don't show up. So I look on line, and check out the gothic.ini file that people recommend changing. I try loading that in notepad and changing it, but I get an error saying that I can't create a file there. So I run notepad in admin mode, change it, save it, and nothing happens in game. I still can't see the videos. Oh well I think, and I continue playing the game. I then just thought (after maybe 20 hours into the game, and 3 restarts) to try running the game in Admin mode. So I do that, and load it up. I can see the videos just fine, and then go to load my game and....nothing's there. So I quit, load back up as regular user, and try to load a save and...nothing's there.
I checked the save folder, and there's nothing in there. Can I do anything to get my old saves back?
also, if you couldn't tell this is for vista.

(NOTE: the following directions assume you have User Account Control enabled)
Saves are stored in the following location (with the precise path reflecting where you installed it to):
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\GOG.com\Gothic II Gold Edition\saves
When running as an administrator the game looks for its saves in the real Program Files folder, not VirtualStore, and so it cannot see them. If you want to play from here on in administrator mode, copy the saves from the VirtualStore location into the game's own saves folder (confirming the UAC prompt when asked) and you should be able to pick up where you left off; if you want to play as a regular user but want your saves to show up again, try deleting any and all files in the Program Files saves folder to force the game to see the VirtualStore saves properly (this won't make it see them when running in admin mode, but they should then show up properly when running as a regular user).

While it wasn't quite this what solved it, it showed what the real cause was (stupid attempt by me to rename C:\PF\GOG.com to C:\PF\GOGcom to try and fix the issue).
Thanks
