I just downloaded Gothic, and the game doesn't play any in-game video. It has the audio from them, but just a black screen. This goes for the movies before the menu screen and the game's introduction as well.

Hey thanks! The scaleVideo setting did the trick.

Hmm, I changed the scale video to 0, installed the new bink player and made sure AA was turned off in ATI control panel and it didn't work. I have vista, so i'll put it down to that. I also had a weird sound driver crash so maybe it's something else with my system.
Any other good hints der_baer_fm?

For the videos, if you are running Vista try changing the Gothic.ini file that exists in:
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\GOG.com\Gothic\System
If you installed in someplace other than default directory try searching for the path you installed in inside the VirtualStore folder.

Uhm, I didn't find other solutions, but you could try to run Gothic in WinXP compatibility mode.
Unfortunately I don't know much about Vista.

I couldn't get the intro video to work out - but thanks everyone for your suggestions. As it stands, thats been the only real problem I have with the game. I managed to get the player kit and FPS patch to work, so the actual gameplay is much better.

One last thing to try, I ran into the same problem. I solved it by first trying to the scaleVideo=0 and running the application under XP SP2 compatibility mode (right-click on application -> properties). That didn't work, but then I ran the application with administrator privileges (right-click -> run as administrator). That did the trick.
I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium with a NVidia 8600GT graphics card.

I can confirm this. Had the same problems and found with this prob on Vista32 you have to follow all of these steps. scalevideo=0, xp compat servpack 1, then run as admin. I tried the different combo's and this is the only one that has worked for me. I'm currently running WinVista32 Home with an 8800GT. I dunno if this is just an Nvidia prob or what.

I did everything in this thread, and the only thing I got was the Logo video in a small box. Can't figure out how to show the movies.
Edit- Works for Gothic 2, but not for Gothic 1. I don't get any video in Gothic 1
Edit 2- Interesting, it seems it is only the Intro video, and the end video that won't play, but the logo, and the videos in between will play.

I tried to change the scale to 0 but it wont let me save over it, im on vista, any ideas?
EDIT I ended up getting to work after switching everything as explained and running as administrator, that was the deal breaker I guess thanks for the tips!

I'm having trouble with this, too. I'm running Vista as well (32 bit), and I've tried changing compatibility mode to XP, I've tried installing the latest Bink drivers, and I've tried turning off anti-aliasing.
I've gone into the gothic.ini file and changed scaleVideo from 1 to 0, but it won't let me save it, saying that it can't create the file.
Any ideas?

Either try to run notepad as admin to edit the file, or move the file you're trying to edit to your desktop, edit it there and once edited move it back where it belongs.
